Family Matters Institute

Role: Contract and Technical Solution Provider

Dates: Feb 2008 to Dec 2012

The Family Matters Institute (FMI) won a contract from the DfE (Department for Education) to deliver a national web-based social network for fathers (Dad.Info). Dad.Info aims to get fathers talking, building self-esteem and championing fatherhood.

Initially, VIS were brought in to provide project management support and development expertise. Working as a team to supply an entire solution VIS has worked with FMI over the years to:

  • Very early on the site was under the brand DadTalk and built with a customised Adobe Dreamweaver site, including a simple XML content management system
  • This was migrated to Joomla 1.5, whilst VIS helped FMI implement recommendations from ISO27001
  • More recently the DadTalk site was merged and replaced by Dad.Info, and upgraded to Joomla 2.5
  • From the outset, SEO and accessibility requirements were built into the design
  • Bring together the graphic designers and management teams to consolidate design and vision and formulate a well-proportioned user experience
  • Work alongside the marketing team to promote the Dad.Info brand

As a result of a number of successful implementations FMI has continued to use VIS to supply the Dad.Info website. VIS has not been the only company to work on the site, and we've worked closely with a number of other companies.

During this period VIS covered the following type of roles:

  • Project Manager
  • Technical Architect
  • Web Developer
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Information Design Consultant
